 CHILDREN & YOUNG TEENS There are four Scripture passages that guide our Children and Young People's Ministry. 1) "But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." (II Tim. 3:14,15) This ministry teaches our children and young people to know "the Holy Scriptures".  2)
"But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he
meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers
of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also
shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." (Psalm
1:2,3) This ministry helps our children and young people to delight
in the law of the Lord and meditate upon it day and night to the end
that they are firmly established in the Lord.3) "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, . . . that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Eph. 3:14-19) This ministry helps our children and young people "to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man", to be "rooted and grounded in love", and "to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge". 4) "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." (Mal. 4:5,6) This ministry turns the hearts of our fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. We endeavor by the grace of God to accomplish these aims as we meet together on Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30. Three elements are in each evening: 7:00 - 7:20 Pre-session activity 7:20 - 8:00 Bible lesson 8:00 - 8:30 Scripture and hymn memory, hymn history  The
year is divided into seven week sessions. The first six weeks of each
seven week period, we have a character or characters of Scripture
that we focus on during the Bible lesson. We choose a Scripture passage
and a hymn to memorize that relate in some way to the character that
we are studying. In this way we hope to enhance meditating on particular
truths or character qualities for a full six weeks. At the end of
the six weeks the children quote their Scripture and sing their hymn
during the Sunday Worship service. On the seventh Wednesday night,
we have a "rest" from our studies and have a more light-hearted
evening. During the spring six weeks, the fathers of the children
teach the Bible lessons. This ministry is designed for children age 5 to 12 years. However, parents may, at their discretion, permit their 4 year old to attend or encourage their 13 or 14 year old to attend. |
