I. Fundamental Christian Doctrines Believed and Taught by This Local Church
The following five statements are expressions of the most fundamental core doctrines of the historic Christian faith. Therefore, every person who applies for membership to our local church must verbally affirm their conscientious agreement with each of these doctrines.
A. The Holy Bible
We believe and teach the plenary verbal inspiration, infallibility, inerrancy, and sufficiency of all sixty-six books of the Holy Bible as found in the original texts. We furthermore believe that God has providentially preserved His Holy Word throughout history so that we may confidently assert that we presently have authoritative copies of the Holy Scriptures.
B. The Holy Trinity
We believe and teach that there is only one true and living God who exists in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each member of the Triune Godhead is distinct in His person, yet one in essence, perfections, and immutable attributes.
C. The Person and Work of Jesus Christ
We believe and teach that the Lord Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. We therefore believe in His eternal uncreated existence before time began, virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death on the cross, bodily resurrection from the dead, and ascension to God the Father, where He ever lives to make intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
D. Salvation by Grace Alone
We believe and teach that salvation is a free gift of God’s grace alone received through faith alone in the person and finished work of Christ alone, apart from any meritorious work(s) on the part of man. We believe that a sinner is converted to God when he or she, by God’s grace, repents from their sins, renounces all confidence in their own righteousness, and places their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, trusting Him to do for them what they cannot do for themselves.
E. The Future Second Coming of Jesus Christ
We believe and teach that the Lord Jesus Christ shall literally, personally, and visibly return in the future to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the future bodily resurrection of all who have died: some to a resurrection of life, and others to a resurrection of condemnation. Those whose names are found in the Lamb’s Book of Life shall enter His rest and enjoy Him forever. Those whose names are not found in the Lamb’s Book of Life shall be cast body and soul into the lake of fire where they shall suffer conscious torment and separation from God for all eternity.
II. Larger Body of Christian Doctrine Believed and Taught By this Local Church
This local church fully subscribes to the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 as an accurate expression of our beliefs concerning what Scripture teaches. As clarifications and amplifications of certain doctrines taught in our confession, we also conscientiously affirm our agreement with the three theological position papers published by the Association of Reformed Baptist Churches of America (ARBCA). Each of our elders is required to publicly reaffirm his agreement with these documents on an annual basis. While our members are not required to fully subscribe to our confession, they must recognize that these are the doctrines that will be taught in and through our local church. And they must respect the confession by not spreading doctrines among our congregation that are in substantial disagreement with it.
